Quality rather than quantity is the name of the game (that goes for riders on track too!) but that’s not to say there is not plenty of choice.
With at least one track day per week to choose from, now is the time to start booking over at the bike track day section.

Noise limit at Snetterton drops to 102dB
Posted on: December 19, 2011
We’ve just found out that the noise limit on bike track days at Snetterton is dropping from 105 dB to 102 dB.
Reportedly it’s due to the number of bikes making it through the static test but then going on to breach the ride-by (which is the one the local council listens to).
102 dB has been in force at other circuits, Oulton Park for example, for a while now so we don’t think it will effect many people.
More details to follow as we get them…

Snetterton 300: what do you, the riders think of it?
Posted on: October 28, 2011
The development of Snetterton circuit was long overdue in our opinion, though we didn’t see it coming that the circuits owner, Motorsport Vision, would commit to extending the circuit itself to a new 3 mile configuration.
After initial troubles with planning, noise and flooding issues the circuit opened it’s doors at the beginning of the year and it soon became clear it was going to become a bike track day favorite.
Have you ridden the new 300? What did you think?

Marco Simoncelli (20 January 1987 – 23 October 2011)
Posted on: October 23, 2011
Bad and sad news. We’re grieved to report the death of Marco Simoncelli. The MotoGP rider succumbed to injuries sustained this weekend at the Malaysian Grand Prix, his death coming barely a week after those of Indy 500 champion Dan Wheldon and Baja racer Rick Huseman.
A promising Italian rider, Simoncelli advanced just last year to the top-tier MotoGP series after making a name for himself in the feeder classes. He was a force to be reckoned with in the Italian Minimoto Championship in the late 90s, won the European championship (as well as several World Championship races) in the 125cc class for Aprilia and took the 250cc World Championship for Gilera in 2008. He advanced to the MotoGP series last season, riding for the Gresini Honda team, for whom he took a second-place finish just last week in Australia.
Disaster struck, however, on the second lap of the Malaysian Grand Prix today where he lost control of his Honda racing bike and was hit by fellow riders Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi as he slid across the track. He laid there motionless, his helmet having come off in the incident, until an ambulance brought him to the trackside infirmary where he was subsequently pronounced dead. He was 24.
The tragedy marks the first death in MotoGP since the 2003 Japanese Grand Prix where Daijiro Kato, also of the Gresini team, was killed. However Shoya Tomizawa was killed a little over a year ago in the Moto2 race at San Marino.
A talented character that will be missed.

Hottrax changes
Posted on: October 1, 2011
In addition to both bike and car trackdays in the UK, Hottax.co.uk will now be supplying a full range of HD cameras for onboard footage, data loggers and other equipment, he’ll be running a service whereby you can collect your prized new gadgets at one of his trackdays and have a full set-up and training session on how to get the most out of them. The full new Hottrax.co.uk shop goes online early January – be sure to check it out.
28.10.11 EDITOR UPDATE: We’ve just decided on an exclusive deal with EasyTrack for track days:
“having been to well over 250 UK trackdays in my time I feel I know a thing or two about how well run an event it. I’ve got to say that, in line with what a heck of a lot of my customers were telling me, I’ve been so impressed with EasyTrack events that this is the natural decision to make. We’ll be attending their events with a full range of Datalogging and Camera stock and our clients can book an EasyTrack event at the same time they purchase a logger or camera online with us. We’ll still be offering the install and training service included with the price!”

UK Bike Trackdays Ltd shuts down
Posted on: August 28, 2011
Well it’s a tough game, bike trackdays. Fierce (some might say unscrouplous) competition, ever increasing costs, a deep recession and pretty crappy weather most of the time.
Hats off then to Simon and James for trying to enter the market this year and it’s a shame they could not make it work as the few events they staged were pretty good.
A nice couple of guys, who can’t be blamed for shutting up shop if the figures were not going their way.
UKBT are no more, and they are formally recommending EasyTrack as the TDO to go to instead (can’t blame them for that either).
